Motel Fire

On July 22nd 2015 @ 12:19 pm, Dover Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a working building at 428 North DuPont Highway (The Dover Inn). Chief Hall arrived on the scene and reported that there was a secondary power line down with fire on the roof, as well as inside a room to the rear of the main office. At that time a Ladder Company assist from Little Creek Fire Company was requested to the scene. Engine 6 arrived first, laid a supply line from the hydrant, then stretched one 1 3'4 attack line through the front door of the main office building. Engine 4 arrived as second due engine and stretched an 1 3'4 attack line to the roof. The fires were approximately 500ft from each other. Ladder 1 arrived as the first due special service. The crew was directed to ladder the building on the Alpha side and head to the roof. Ladder 54 and 54-5 arrived a short time later. The ladder arrived as the second due special service and was directed to assist Engine 4s crew in the rear while 54-5 arrived as the third due engine and was directed to start a search of other rooms. During their search, the crew from 54-5 encountered heavy smoke in room 225 and found an addition fire inside of room 223. That fire was knocked down and the remainder of the search had negative results Engine 6 reported that their fire in the main office was knocked and there was no extension. Engine 4 reported that their fire was also knocked down and was contained to a small area of the roof. Chief Hall placed 428 North DuPont Highway under control @ 13:04hrs and turned the scene over to the City of Dover Fire Marshals Office for investigation.
