Working Apartment Fire

Thursday, July 14, 2016

On Saturday, October 24th 2015 at 13:00hr, the box alarm assignment was transmitted for a high life hazard structure fire at 430 NE Kings Hwy, Luther Towers. The box assignment brought companies from Station 54 (Little Creek Fire Company), Station 43 (Cheswold Volunteer Fire Company) and Station 44 (Citizens Hose Co of Smyrna) to the scene along with multiple BLS and ALS units. Chief Mark Hall arrived to find a 7 story assisted living facility partially evacuated with reports of a possible fire on the 4th floor. The crew from the first arriving Engine (Engine 3) grabbed their high rise packs and headed up the stairwell to investigate. Once access was made to the 4th floor, Captain O'Connor III and his crew of two were met by heavy smoke conditions in the main hallway. While searching the floor, the crew found the fire, which was located in a kitchen. Once extinguished and overhaul was completed, PPV(positive pressure ventilation) was used to remove the smoke from the 4th and 5th floor. No injuries were reported and the scene was placed under control. Special thanks to all companies involved in the incident. Your help is greatly appreciated.
