Working Apartment Fire - Garden Court

On February 18, 2013, at 1302, the Dover Fire Department was dispatched for a reported smoke condition at 413 Court Street, Garden Court Apartments, Building J. The homeowner reported something lying on top of a lamp had caught on fire and her apartment was filling with smoke. Utility 1 and Engine 6 were in District setting up a live fire evolution for training and responded. Upon arrival Asst. Chief Hall assumed command of a 2-story apartment complex with a smoke condition present from the second floor. Command upgraded the fire to a general alarm. E6’s crew advanced a 1-3/4” attack line through the stairwell to the second floor apartment. L1 arrived on scene and put the main to the roof and performed search and rescue operations in the fire apartment and adjoining apartments. E3 arrived on scene and assisted with search and rescue, ventilation and overhaul. Fast action by the first due engine contained the fire to the room of origin. All searches proved negative and all occupants were accounted for. The fire is being investigated by the City of Dover FMO.
