Working Structure Fire

Monday, April 23, 2018

On April 22, 2018 at 19:03, the DFD was alerted for a working house fire on Meadow Ridge Pkwy. Due to the incident being in a rural section of the district, well outside City limits, and not protected by hydrants, a Tanker Company assist was started from Hartly (51) and Marydel (56), along with Camden (41) for the RIT. Past Chief Brian Bashista was first on scene. He advised of a two story, single family home with fire on the delta side. The Duty Officer, Capt. Michael Morris arrived on scene moments later and established Command. He advised conditions as reported, now with fire from the roof of the garage. E2, E3, R41-6 and L2 arrived within minutes of each other. Two 1-3/4” attack lines were pulled from E2 and advanced. Units were on scene for approximately three minutes when the garage roof collapsed on the crews below. An immediate evacuation order was given as manpower on scene effected the simultaneous removal of one firefighter covered by debris. A water supply was achieved by arriving tanker units. L2’s aerial was placed in service. The fire was contained to the garage with no extension into the residence. The scene was placed under control and crews remained on scene for an additional hour performing overhaul and checking hot spots. The scene was turned over to the State FMO for investigation.

A total of two firefighters were transported to the ED and later released for minor injuries. A third was treated and released for duty while on scene.

The department would like to thanks all personnel on scene for quick actions that mitigated what could have been a tragic event, as well as those who called and sent well wishes.
