STANBY FOR ODESSA FIRE COMPANY

On the above date at 1350 hours the Dover Fire Department provided a one engine cover up for Odessa Fire Company. Odessa had a two story residential fire with heavy fire. Dover Engine 7 responded and provided fire service for the Town of Odessa for approximately an hour and a half. Thank you for the hospitality. Unit responding Engine 7.

On the above date Dover Engine 4 responded to Target located at 148 John Hunn Brown Rd. for report of a subject with head trauma due to a ground level fall. EMS advised that the subject would be flown to Christiana due to the severity of the injury. Engine 4 provided the landing zone for the Trooper Helicopter. Units responding were Engine 4, KM-5, KM-7, A63, Dover PD, and DSP Aviation.
APARTMENT FIRE , COUNTRY VILLAGE APARTMENTS

On the above date at approximately 1435 hours the Dover Fire Department was alerted for a possible fire at Country Village Apartments with a subject burned. Dover Chief David Carey along with Engines 3 and 4 were on the road quickly after dispatch. Engine 4 took the hydrant inside the complex as Engine 3's crew stretched a 1 3'4 to the second floor apartment. Chief Carey reported heavy smoke conditions on the second floor. The burned subject was found outside and treated immediately by EMS. Engine 3's crew found the fire in a second floor apartment. Ladder 1's crew along with the crew from Engine 4 assisted in ventilation and search and rescue. All searches proved negative . Rescue 1 arrived on location and provided overhaul operations. The burned subject was flown to Crozer Chester burn center by Delaware State Police Helicopter. Fire Marshall investigators believed the fire was started by a gas explosion in the kitchen. The investigation is still pending at this time. Units responding were Engines 3,4, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, Medic KM-7, A63, DSP Helicopter, Dover PD, Chief Carey, City FM, and Chesapeake Utilities.
LADDER 1 PROVIDES COVER UP FOR NEWARK STATION 9

On the above date Dover Ladder 1 headed north to provide fire response service for the city of Newark. Ladder 1 was known as Ladder 46 for the day and provided fire protection along with Smyrna engine 44-4, Ceciltons Engine and ambulance, and Harringtons ambulance. The crew kept themselves busy for most of the day learning where certain buildings were located in Newark in case of an incident. The crew handled two calls. The first was a service call in the Brookeside development for a subject that had fallen. The second call was for an elevator rescue at the Sleep Inn Hotel located on S. College Avenue. After the members of Newark were finished their training drill all crews were released at around 1500 hours. We would like to thank Newark for their hospitality and hope to work with their department in the future.

On the above date at approximately 2330 hours the Dover Fire Department was alerted for a building fire in the area of Tudor Industrial Park. Engine 4 under the command of Asst. Chief Smetana was first to respond followed shortly by Deputy Chief Christiansen. Dover 16 arrived on location and reported a one story commercial structure with smoke showing. Engine 4 arrived shortly after and forced entry to the building and stretched a 1 3'4 handline thru the front door. Engine 3 arrived on location and began to search and pulled a second line placing the 2 1'2 handline into service. Crews found fire in the rear of the structure with heavy smoke. Ladder 1 along with Ladder 2 began to ventilate the structure and assist in a search. Crews got a quick handle on the fire right away. All searches of the building proved negative and crews began to overhaul and clear the smoke. Units remained on scene for approximately 2 hours. The scene was turned over the City of Dover Fire Marshall's office for further investigation. Units responding were Engines 3,4,6, Ladder 1, Ladder 2, Hartly Fire Company, Little Creek Fire Company, Dover PD, and the City of Dover Fire Marshall's office.
CAR FIRE WITH EXPOSURE TO THE RESIDENCE

On the above date Dover Fire Department was dispatched for report of a car fire located at 898 Schoolhouse Ln. in the Woodcrest development. Engine 4 was first to respond under command of F/F IV Derek Larson. While responding dispatched advised Engine 4 that Dover Police was on location reporting vehicle involved with exposure to the residence. Engine 4 arrived on location and reported that the engine compartment was involved and that there was an exposure problem to the residence. Engine 4's crew stretched the front 1 3'4 trash line and made quick work of the fire. Minimal damage was done to the residence causing damage to the vinyl awning on the Alpha side. The scene was placed under control and turned over to the City of Dover Fire Marshall's office for further investigation. Units responding were Engines 4,6, Dover PD, and the City FM.
TWO ALARM BUILDING FIRE ON RACE SUNDAY

A two-alarm blaze broke out this afternoon at a professional building, heavily damaging some doctors’ offices. The fire was reported at 2:34 p.m. at 1093 S. Governors Ave. When firefighters arrived, smoke was showing on the west side of the single-story building. “Once they entered the structure and started an interior attack, flames came through the roof,” said David Carey, chief of Robbins Hose of Dover. “We had to pull everybody out and start an exterior attack.” Nannette Cobb watched the fire with a crowd of other bystanders. “It was blazing,” she said. “It was really burning.” It took 95 firefighters from Robbins Hose, Hartly, Clayton, Cheswold and Little Creek fire companies about two hours to bring the blaze under control. They also activated the Kent County Special Collapse Team and the New Castle County Collapse Team to shore up the building’s interior so the fire marshal could investigate the cause, which is still unknown, Carey said. CREWS GEAR UP FOR RACE WEEKEND AT DOVER DOWNS

Nascar comes to Dover this weekend and it always poses an extra challenge for firefighters with the Dover Fire Department. Crews will be at the track near the Start/Finish Line and the North First Aid station starting Thursday night at 1700 hours until Sunday June 2. These crews will be providing fire and ems protection for Race Fans that are visiting Dover for the race. Crews will be responding to all emergencies over the weekend and enjoy interacting with all of the visitors as they are very courteous to the Dover Fire Department. Firefighters that are not working at the track will remain at the Stations providing fire protection for the residents of the City of Dover as always. DUTY CREW HANDLES MULTIPLE CALLS WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS

The first day of Race Weekend , Friday, the duty crew from Station 1 handled five fire calls within the City of Dover. While crews stood by at Dover Downs on Engine 6 and Brush 9 the crew from station 1 stayed busy. The first call came in around 1030 AM and was a call for an automatic fire alarm at William Henry Middle School located at 65 Carver Rd. Crews investigated and found a beam detector activation in the large gym area of the school. While Engine 4 was on the way back to Station 1, dispatch advised Dover 22 of a second emergency in the district of an automatic fire alarm located at Solid Rock Church, 807 Hazlettville Rd. The crew from Engine 4 completed a walk-thru of the church and found no detector activations and discovered that there was a power outage in the area, tripping the alarm. As Engine 4 was returning they came across a MVC on Hazlettville Rd. for which Camden-Wyoming Fire Department was responding to as well. Crews stopped to check all occuppants and awaited the arrival of CWFC. Engine 4 cleared that scene and turned it over to CWFC for further. Crews got a little downtime and enjoyed a nice lunch. As the crew finished lunch they were advised by dispatch of a diesel fuel spill located in the area of 5000 N. Dupont Hwy., Sears Company. Upon arrival the crew found a small leak of what appeared to be hydraulic fluid. While on scene DNREC arrived and took over the incident. As Engine 4 was returning from the spill they were alerted for a car fire in the area of 4000 N. Dupont Hwy., the Dover Mall between Macy's and Sears. Engine 4 arrived on location and found a vehicle on fire with the engine compartment involved. Crews extinguished the fire and remained on scene for approximately 30 minutes. The car fire was turned over to FM-3 for further investigation. Special Thanks to the crew for their hard work and teamwork throughout the day.
WORKING FIRE IN CAPITAL GREEN ON MOTHER'S DAY

On the above date at approximately 1830 hours the Dover Fire Department alerted its members for report of a working building fire. Dover Deputy Chief Christiansen was first to respond. Engine 4 under the command of Chief David Carey was on the road shortly after the Deputy. Deputy Chief Christiansen went on location with smoke showing from side "C" Charlie. Engine 4 was advised that to take the hydrant on the corner of E. Water St. and River Rd. As Engine 4's jumpseat crew advanced an 1 3'4 handline through the front door. Ladder 1 and Engine 3 went responding. Command advised Ladder 1 to ladder the building and begin ventilation. Engine 3's crew was originally assigned the RIT. Engine 4's crew made a quick knockdown of the fire which was located on Division 2 in the rear bedroom. Engine 6 arrived on location and replaced Engine 3 as the RIT. Engine 3's crew then checked the neighborring homes for extension. The remainder of Ladder 1's crew performed primary and secondary searches of the residence and both proved to be negative. Crews remained on scene for approximately 1 hour. The scene was turned over to the City of Dover Fire Marshall's office for further investigation. Units responding were Engines 3,4,6,Ladder 1, Dover Police, KM-7, A63, City of Dover FM, and the American Red Cross.
OVERTURNED TRACTOR TRAILER ON ROUTE 1

On 4/17/08 at 1649 hours the Dover Fire Department was dispatched to a MVC, tractor trailer overturned on the north bound on ramp of Exit 104 and Rt. 1. On arrival Chief David Carey established command with a tractor trailer overturned down the embankment. A DNREC officer on scene advised Chief Carey that the patient had self-extricated himself from the vehicle. Rescue 1, and Engine 4 secured the vehicle and assisted with applying sta dry to the roadway. Engine 6 secured a landing zone for Trooper 4 Heavy. A-63 and KM-7 assessed the patient who refused treatment. Unit cleared and turned over to DSP and DNREC at 1719 hours. Units Responding Rescue 1, Engine 4, 6, A-63, KM-7, DNREC, and DSP.

On 4/17/08 at 1740 hours the Dover Fire Department was requested by the City Inspections and Fire Marshal's Office for a non emergency response to 102 Orchard Avenue for shoring a porch from the result of an MVC. On arrival Special Ops 1 under command of Chief David Carey found that a Ford SUV struck a two vehicles and took out two post supporting a porch roof. Special Op 1 and Ops 2 crew placed two 4x4 dead shores under the porch roof area for support. Units cleared and turned other to the home owner at 1858 hours Units responding Special Ops 1, 2, Dover FM 1 and City Inspections.

On April 17th 2008, at 0944 hours the Dover Fire Department was dispatched to a working building fire at 930 Whatcoat Drive. On arrival Chief David Carey established command with smoke smoking from Division 3 on side Charlie. Engine 4 laid a 5 inch supply line and advanced an 1-3/4 hoseline into the structure and found a living room fire in the third floor apartment. Ladder 1 performed a primary and secondary search, threw ground ladders on both the Alpha and Charlie sides of the building and set positive pressure ventilation. Engine 6 was assigned RIT and assisted with exterior activities. Situation was placed under control at 10:07 hours. Scene was turned over to FM1 and all units returned at 10:31hours. Units responding Dover 15, E4, L1, E6, KM-5, A-63, and Engine/Rescue 54 for the RIT. Station 54 units were redirected to cover Station 1.
MVC WITH ENTRAPMENT ON ROUTE 1

On the above date at 0721 hours the Dover Fire Department was alerted for a MVC with entrapment. Deputy Chief Christiansen was first to respond along with A63 and KM-7. Engine 4 under the command of Firefighter IV/Engineer John Lecompte III was the next unit on the road. Deputy Chief Christiansen went on location and reported that the driver was trapped and directed Engine 4's crew to take the door. Engine 3 went responding shortly after Engine 4. Engine 4's crew arrived on location and placed the Holmatro tool into service after stabilizing the vehicle. Engine 3's crew arrived shortly after 4 and assisted EMS with patient care. The passenger had been extricated by EMS prior to Dover Fire Departments arrival. Both patients were taken to KGH via A63 and B63 along with KM-7. The scene was turned over to Delaware State Police for further investigation. Units responding were Engines 3,4,Rescue 1, KM-5, KM-7, A63, B63, Deputy Chief of Dover Fire, Kent County Fire Police, and Delaware State Police.

On April 26, 2008 the Dover Fire Department's softball team will be hosting a fundraiser to help the team enter tournaments and buy equipment. This event will be held at Uno's Chicago Bar and Grill located at 1255 N. Dupont Hwy., next to the Dover Mall. This event will begin at 11am and the team will receive 20% of the earnings at the end of the night.
