MVC with Heavy Entrapment

Saturday, February 18, 2017

On February 16, 2016 at 2204, the DFD was alerted for a motor vehicle collision with a subject trapped. E4, under the direction of Captain Sean Byron, was first on scene to find a single vehicle, off the roadway, into a tree with one subject heavily entrapped. E2, R1 and Fire Chief Carey arrived shortly after. Crews stabilized the vehicle and began the extraction process. Crews placed several Holmatro rescue tools in service. The entire roof was removed, the driver’s side doors had to be removed and the dash had to be pushed forward. The driver’s seat back also had to be cut in order to free the subject from her vehicle. After a lengthy extraction, the subject was flown, via Delaware State Police Aviation, to a Level 1 Trauma Center in northern Delaware. The Kent County Paramedic did an outstanding job of continuing patient care during the entire extraction process. The scene was turned over to the City of Dover Police for investigation.
