Spicy Chicken Challenge - Lowes of Dover

Thursday, July 2, 2015

The Dover Fire Department, Chick-fil-A of the Dover Mall and Lowes of Dover joined together for an afternoon of education, fun and face stuffing. Several agencies were on hand with educational booths. Present were the Dover Fire Department with an engine and truck display, the Dover Police DARE unit, the City of Dover Fire Marshal’s Investigation Unit, the City of Dover Electric Department with their electric education house and Dover AFB with a crash truck. There were many activities for the kids to participate in; a moon bounce, craft stations set up by Lowes, face painting and putting a simulated fire out with a hose line. Music entertainment was provided by “DJ ME”. The event culminated in the Chick-fil-A Spicy Chicken Sandwich eating contest. Members from surrounding fire companies squared off against our own Chief of the Department, Sean Christiansen. Participants had five minutes to consume as many spicy chicken sandwiches as possible. Although several gave it a great try, none could match the Chief’s eating prowess! The Dover Fire Department emerged victorious, it’s no Governor’s Cup, but we’re proud just the same. The Dover Fire Department would like to extend a debt of gratitude to the Chick-fil-A of the Dover Mall and the Lowes of Dover for helping make this event a great success. We would also like to that those Departments that provided displays and to the contestants who participated in the eating contest. Without them, it would have just been a hot day standing in a parking lot.
