MVC Rollover, State Route 1 - 200 Plaza Drive

On July 16, 2011 at 1455, the Dover Fire Department was dispatched to State Route 1 in the vicinity of the toll plaza for a MVC rollover. While units were en route, they were advised of the possibility of multiple patients with two confirmed entrapped. E2, under the direction of Asst Chief Simmons, was first on scene to find a single vehicle, well off the roadway, down an embankment. The vehicle had come to rest on the passenger side in a wooded area below the road grade. E4 and R1 arrived on scene and assisted E2’s crew in stabilizing the vehicle and removing the roof to gain access to the patients. The patients were removed from the vehicle and brought up to grade via a rope system and stokes baskets. Kent County Department of Public Safety Paramedics and BLS crews administered aide and transported the entrapped subjects to the local Emergency Department. The scene was turned over to the Delaware State Police for investigation.
