LIVE-IN PROGRAM

Established in 2008, the Claymont Fire Company Live-In program takes pride in being a successful stepping stone for building successful career firefighters, business owners, and technicians of various fields. In exchange for free living accommodations, the company requires that members perform station duties, attend trainings/meetings, and respond to emergency calls. Live-ins are able to be residents and receive mail at the station.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 48 HOURS OF STAFFING PER WEEK
  • 18 YEARS OF AGE
  • FULL-TIME STUDENT OR EMPLOYED
  • POSSESSION OF A DIPLOMA OR GED

COMMERCIAL KITCHEN

A live-in fund provides live-ins with a monthly allowance to use at their discretion. Many live-ins put their funds toward gas, room upgrades and personal gear. This live-in fund is meant to support the members that staff the apparatus for over 48 hours a week.

ROOM UPGRADES

Each live-in is entitled to over two thousand dollars to update/upgrade their live-in room upon moving in. These updates include new carpets, paint, furniture, TV’s, etc.

TUITON REIMBURSEMENT

Company tuition per semester is $1000. The company also offers other aid via DVFA Recruitment & Retention Grant which can be obtained at $2000 a semester for Under Graduates and $1000 for Masters.

STIPEND PROGRAM

Live-ins also can accumulate stipend points. Each point is equal to its dollar amount. Live-ins will earn 2 points per call responded to while staffing. Live-ins will also earn .5 a point per hour staffed. Staffing points are earned after the monthly minimum of 192 Hrs (24Hrs x 4 weeks). Live-ins can be credited by these points toward any purchase they request.

ASST. CHIEF CRIPPS

Hometown: Wildwood, NJ

Nick Cripps was born and raised in a fire service family, starting his fire service career in North Wildwood, NJ at the age of 15. After joining Claymont, Nick completed FF1, FF2, Haz-Mat Ops and his EMT. Nick is currently on the New Castle County USAR team and currently works as a career FF/EMT in New Castle County.

FF/EMT OFORI-AGYEKUM

Hometown: Claymont, DE

Kofi, a local to the Claymont area, joined at the age of 16. Kofi has completed his FF1, FF2, Hazmat Ops and EMT since joining in 2019. Kofi is now working as a career FF/EMT in New Castle County.

FF CARNEY

Hometown: New Brunswick, NJ

Dan started his fire service career with East Brunswick Fire District #1 in 2018 where he obtained his Firefighter 1 with the Monmouth County Fire Academy the following year. Dan joined the Claymont Fire Company with the goal of progressing his career in emergency services. He currently works as a Dispatcher at the New Castle County Communications Center.

FF/EMT STRAUB

Hometown: Havertown, PA

Mike became a Claymont Live-in after completing highschool with hopes of becoming a better fireman. From his hometown company of Oakmont Fire Company Mike obtained pro board Fire 1, Hazmat ops and vehicle rescue certifications. Mike works part-time in NJ working to become a career FF/EMT.

LIEUTENANT KLINE

Antonio started his career in NJ attending Camden County, where he earned his FF1/2, Hazmat, and Special Operations certifications. He joined Claymont in 2023 as a general member and soon after became a live-in. He obtained his EMT certification while living at Claymont. He has now accepted a full-time job offer at the Christiana Fire Company. Tony was recently promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in December of 2025.

FF/EMT HOLLIS

Hometown: Wilmington, DE

Savion began his fire service career at Claymont in 2022. Shortly after becoming a live-in member, he obtained his EMT certification. Savion is currently a full-time FF/EMT in New Castle County.

Hometown: Claymont, DE

Bill grew up in Claymont and joined the company in 2021 while attending DeSales University. After joining, Bill completed FF1, FF2, Driver/Operator, Confined Space Technician, and Swift Water Rescue Technician certifications. Shortly after earning his degree, he moved into Claymont and began his career as a full-time FF/EMT within the county. He now works full-time in Chester County, PA and is apart of the Board of Directors for Claymont.

CAPTAIN MAY

Hometown: Unionville, PA

Josh began his fire service career in 2019 at Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company, where he still actively serves. He joined Claymont Fire Company in December 2021, and in October 2023, Josh became a career FF/EMT for Fairfax County, Virginia. He also serves as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps Reserve as a Machine Gun Squad Leader. He now works full-time in Chester County, PA at Concordville Fire Company. Josh was recently promoted from the rank of Lieutenant (2025-2026) to Fire Captain in December of 2025.

LIEUTENANT CONLIN

Hometown: Stone Harbor, NJ

Peter’s entire life has been spent around a firehouse, following in his fathers footsteps becoming a volunteer in Stone Harbor in 2016. He gained his FF1, FF2, NREMT, Rope Rescue Tech, Open Water Rescue Ops and his Fire Inspector license. Peter then transferred into a career position at Stone Harbor in 2021 before moving into Claymont and accepting a career position at Talleyville. Peter earned the rank of Lieutenant in December of 2025.

FF/EMT NEWTON

Hometown: Wilmington, DE

Cody joined Claymont in 2023 with no prior experience and quickly earned his Firefighter I, II, and EMT certifications within his first year. Cody plans to become a commercial airline pilot while continuing to volunteer at Claymont. He currently works part-time in New Castle County.

Hometown: Aspinwall, PA

Bennett began his fire service career with the Aspinwall Fire Department, following in his father’s footsteps. After earning his FF1 and FF2 certifications, he joined the Claymont Fire Company to gain more experience with the goal of pursuing a career in emergency services.

FF/EMT DELVALLE

Hometown: Reading, PA

Jesus began his fire service career at the age of 15 at the Exeter Township Fire Department. He recently obtained his Fire 1 & EMT. He plans on obtaining his Paramedic certificate to become a FF/Medic.
