Fatal Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Crash

On January 1, 2015 at 0429 hours the Dover Fire Department was alerted for a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. Chief Mark Hall was first to respond and was advised by dispatch that Dover Police were on scene, along with EMS units, advising two patients on scene. The driver had self-extricated himself from the vehicle and that the pedestrian was trapped inside the vehicle. Chief Hall arrived on scene and confirmed the report. E2 was next on location and their crew began extrication on the passenger side of the vehicle. R1 arrived next and Command advised them to set up the light tower and to send their crew up to assist with extrication. Crews worked for approximately 10 minutes, allowing access for the Medics, who then pronounced the subject deceased. The driver of the vehicle was transported to the local Trauma Center with non-life threatening injuries. Crews remained on scene for approximately 1 hour assisting Dover Police with road closure and lighting. The scene was eventually turned over to Dover Police for investigation.
